Dig those crazy opera windows. The sort of brougham you can take off-road.

NP if you can find parts for it. Wish I was closer or I would consider that one for myself.

It’s pretty tempting. Mechanical parts shouldn’t be much of an issue. Mostly a Jeep drivetrain.

Always loved those Eagles. And I can understand your position on/want for this one with it’s weird opera window. But I’d definitely rather have...

Kinja'd!!!

But, if you really want it weird, get a SUNDANCER!

Kinja'd!!!

Price of that CL coupé though: MAN GET IT! Or did you get that Mondeo already?

The SX/4 is the shit, yeah. If I had a bucket of money, I’d buy this one.

There actually was a Sundancer on CL near me a few months ago. I think I posted the listing to Oppo. It was a little overpriced, but I should have gone to look at it anyway just to see it. The white coupe is a little far away from me so I’m not sure it’s worth it, but you never know with me.

The guy ended up giving the Mondeo to his son which I think was a terrible idea. There are a few others around, though. I really enjoyed driving it. And then there’s also this which has caught my fancy for obvious reasons. It’s also a little far, though.

I’m glad he sold it to his son. Because look what that action brought to you... Hahaha, a Renault 9!!!! Parts for this one will be VERY easy to get for you ;-)

But that AMC is obviously the better choice. Do it. It’s not that far away. And you’ve obviously deserved it by now, that’s the most important part!!!

Renault 9 GTA. The car we got instead of that U.S. Alpine. That one would make for some fun Oppo posts, but I think the Eagle has wider appeal and is so swanky. I’m going to put in some inquiries for both to get a feel for what they need. I’m also finally installing the new shocks on the Le Car this weekend for the final piece of the mechanical puzzle.

‘GTA’, really? Haha! ‘Grand Tourisme Alpine’! So what engine did they mount, the PRV V6?

I’d like you to get that 9 but, of course: The AMC is the one you’d really need. No need for another small engined Renault, you need something with MORE displacement, cylinders and POWER!

The Renault may match the AMC in power. It was a 90hp, 2.0 liter OHC 4-cylinder. For the time, it was a little screamer. They said it bested a Corvette on a skid plate, whatever that means. The AMC I6 made 112 horsepower from 4.2 liters, and the Eagle weighed a lot more than the 9. But, it could go up a mountain the hard way, that’s for sure.

90 hp from a 2.0 wasn’t really that much for european cars back then. Too bad. Nice engine though, when I worked for a while in Rimini I drove a Renault Fuego deux litres with the same engine, actually not a bad drive.

But getting 112 hp out of a 4.2 is just hilarious. Is mounting a 180 hp cherokee 4.0 engine a difficult swap for these?

It was probably American emissions equipment that kept the power down. Same for the AMC although that thing was always about torque rather than HP. I think that 2.0 was modified specifically for that car. Like a longer stroke, or something. I’m not sure if our Fuegos had it. Plus, I think it was assembled here in America and just that alone sucks out some oompf.

Yeah, the 4.0 will swap in with just a few modifications. There was also an AMC V8 and if you had one with a manual, it had the T-5 which was in basically every American car in those days, so it would be compatible with most engines. And the auto was a Chrysler tranny, so you could put a Hemi in it.

No Hemi needed, I’ve driven the Wrangler 4.0 ‘High Output’ (was that badge just in Europe?) a lot and that engine is powerfull enough. That was a manual though, very short geared IIRC, but it really took off when hitting the floor.

They called it “High Output” here, too. It was a fun engine to punch. The Cherokees with those and a manual were a blast. I only drove one once, but it was cool. My first car was actually a huge Grand Cherokee with fake wood and the old wheezy 6 cylinder. It wasn’t fast, but I could knock over a tree if I drove into one which I found out.

‘Which I found out’... That’s the point of using a Jeep anyway I suppose!

Always loved the fake wood on the Wagoneers. On a Grand Cherokee though...

I’ve actually been thinking about a Wrangler lately. It actually fits our needs perfectly: it will be used by my lovely wife most of the time so dents and scratches aren’t that bad. It’s got the possibility of driving with the top down. It brings a smile to my face when driving. I know it’s not as fast/dynamic as my number one thus far (the 125i/135i convertible) but it’s starting to ‘grow on me’.

Mine was a beautiful light blue color. It really was a sharp, albeit giant, car. I could fit all my friends in it when I was in high school.

We had a CJ-5 when I was a kid. It was awesome. My mom always loved Jeeps and it rubbed off on me. I say do it. You’ve been hankering for a convertible, I think. Is there much off-roading in The Netherlands?

A friend of my parent’s had a CJ-5 as well when I was like 10 years old, a Renegade if I remember correct. He, named Helmut of course, lived in Switzerland and we regularly visited him. Epic times in the mountains with his Jeep. I guess it started there. And with all those Jeeps in the A-team flying over the screen perhaps.

There’s next to none off-roading over here. Just some sandy back-roads. And once in a while snow. Had a great time with my F-150 cruising through the snow. And on those sandy roads: it could really ‘pull’ some dust!

I love this alternate universe you live in with AMC Jeep Renegades and F-150’s running rampant in Europe. Did you know anyone with a Camaro? Ours was a Renegade with the blue stripes and “Renegade” stickers on the hood and Levi’s interior. Definitely the kind of thing a young male should be brought up in. Those roll bars on those A-Team Jeeps were some heavy duty, life-saving stuff.

A WHITE Renegade with the blue striping? THAT WAS WHAT HELMUT HAD AS WELL! No Levi’s interior though, dark blue-ish leather.

I didn’t know anyone with a Camaro. Had a few gear-headed neighbors: one drove a Fiat 130 Coupe, the other one an Opel Commodore 2.8 GS/E. Those could be regarded as being the Euro-Camaros.

Maybe there was something about those particular Jeeps that made us grow to like French cars. It makes zero sense which is why it could be true. Leather? I don’t think we got Renegades with leather here.

I was trying to think of something as American an as F-150. What about a Trans-Am?

Could be true. In our universe that could be true. Leather could be ‘Sky’/vinyl as well, remember: I was like 10 years of age.

I know. But as I said before when displaying old photo’s of my new street: driving USA cars was only for pimps and criminals in 70’s/80’s Europe. So I would probably be disinherited if I admitted knowing anyone with either a Camaro or a Trans-Am.
